New Zealand based Hemi Hemingway, the project of Shaun Blackwell, is back with new single and video “Wings of Desire”. "Wings of Desire" is Hemi's second single of the year following "(To Be) Without You". which was released in April and was the first piece of new music from Hemi Hemingway since 2023's acclaimed debut LP Strangers Again.

After making his debut in 2021 with his '60s crooner pop debut EP The Lonely Hunter and selling out shows in London, Hemi Hemingway opted to return home to New Zealand. Back in New Zealand Hemi Hemingway has alternated live performances - both headline shows and supported slots to the likes of Kurt Vile and A. Savage of Parquet Courts - with working on new music and with a new album due early 2026. "Wings of Desire" is another teaser heightening expectations and arrives with a fantastic music video directed by Adam Joseph Browne, 

Hemi himself says the song is deeply personal and expands "When I wrote ‘Wings of Desire’, after an extended period of heightened anxiety and depression, I’d grown tired of feeling unwanted, unused, unrealised. However self-inflicted these feelings might have been, I felt about ready to burst. I wished to relive that constant ache of early-20s longing with self-conscious uncertainty, return to that delirium of potential love, when the risk was so high that tragedy lurked around every corner. I longed for that push and pull between excitement and heartache, to be inspired by the never knowing."
