New Zealand based Hemi Hemingway, the project of Shaun Blackwell, is today sharing “This City’s Tryna Break My Heart”, a new single from his upcoming second full-length album Wings of Desire. Wings of Desire is due out on February 20 2026 via PNKSLM Recordings and includes the previously released singles, “Oh, My Albertine” (which features fellow NZ artist Vera Ellen on guest vocals), “Wings of Desire” and “(To Be) Without You”.
With the rock’n’roll panache of a dive bar matador and the emotional force of a knife in the guts, Hemi Hemingway makes music that thrills, spills and breaks hearts. The effortlessly slick New Zealand star has a connoisseur’s ear for the finest parts of musical history, sweeping 60s rock, 50s sheen and 80s romanticism into the present day, refurbishing and refashioning them into something new and fresh.
"I wrote this track around 8 months after the breakup of a 10-year relationship. Somebody new was interested in me, and I was aware of it. But I was also dubious, guarded and nervous to reciprocate feelings. I was concerned that I had barely begun my grieving journey from my last relationship, and this attention was stirring up a lot of silt, so to speak. I was trying to figure out just what I could give to this person, when all of a sudden my phone stopped lighting up." – Hemi Hemingway
